Choosing a Video Production Partner
There are many companies offering Video Production services, so it is important that take the time to choose a company that suits your needs and work style. Here are my suggestions for how to go about hiring the company production right:
STEP 1: Brainstorm with senior management and colleagues to decide:
- What production type (s) you think you need / want?
- Who SHOULD get this message?
- What style / environment want to accomplish?
- What is the maximum amount that can be allocated?
- What is your schedule for this campaign?
Your ideas need not be definitive, but it is essential to have a "wish list" at this time.
STEP 2: Get in the Internet to research their markets for local video production:
- Find companies that offer a complete service – often called "script to screen "
- Check out their websites and examples of your previous work / showreels
- Make a list of those who like the look of
- Send to a letter from base (including the estimated budget) so they can:
- a) confirm interest, availability
- b) start thinking about ideas
- Making a call to discuss things further
STEP 3: Telephone interview. Some questions to ask:
- What were your thoughts on seeing the original application?
- Have performing similar work for other clients?
- Do you have any ideas / concepts for you to consider?
- Would you be willing to send treatment or storyboard at this stage?
- Can they work within your budget … without sacrificing important?
- Can they work within your time frame? What would the process work?
- How are they going to charge? Fixed price for the entire project or be 'extras'?
- What additional value for you?
Developing a strong relationship with a Production Company good video is one way to achieve tangible results and ongoing, without decimating their marketing budget.
