Tanzania’s Best Safari Locations

The majority of people will solely base the success of a safari on the visitor traffic within a national park. We therefore consider traffic avoidance a number one priority to consider when booking up any kind of safari. The misconception amongst many travellers is that Tanzania’s northern National Parks are so famous that they have some of the highest traffic levels in the world and for this reason entirely they should be avoided. The truth is that with any Tanzania safari you are likely to experience high visitor volumes especially in high season and this generally tends to occur in the most game rich areas of national parks. Due to the fact these areas do receive high visitor numbers, wildlife here is very used to vehicles and in many cases it’s places like this than can offer some of the best wildlife sightings on the continent.

Southern & Western Parks

Due to the fact that the wildlife reserves in southern Tanzania are very widespread the only real way to get around is by using light aircraft. The advantages of heading out to the Selous, Ruaha, Katavi and Mahale parks are that you don’t have to spend hours on the road bumping into other safari traffic. You can enjoy the majority of your holiday in and around the various game parks whilst having the most wonderful opportunity to see Tanzania from above. Most people tend to combine a trip to one of the nation’s southern wildlife reserves with a trip to Mafia Island for a relaxing end to what most consider to be the holiday of a lifetime. The Zanzibar archipelago is never more than a short flight on a light aircraft from any of the countries airstrips. The beauty of travelling by light aircraft is that you are able to spend your morning game viewing within one of Tanzania’s many reserves and spend the afternoon on a beach in Zanzibar sipping a cool beer under the African sun.

Northern Parks

This is one of the most stunning regions in African, where this magestical scenery just seems to roll into one. The regions is home to some of the most famous parks in Africa including Lake Manyara and of course Mt Kilimanjaro. The Serengeti plays host to one of the most awe-inspiring events on the African continent, the wildebeest migration. This takes place once a year beginning in the depths of the southern Serengeti heading north to the Mara River where these herbivores cross to reach their destination, the Masaai Mara in Kenya. Over 1.5 million herbivores take part in the wildebeest migration heading north to seek fresher pastures in Kenya’s Masai Mara.

The ultimate Tanzania would encompass a park from the northern and southern circuit as well as a trip over to stay on the beautiful Zanzibar archipelago for a few days.
