Russia Wins 2018 World Cup Bid

The final decision was made today about the 2018 World Cup would be hosted, and the favorites, Russia emerged victorious. This will be the first time in history that an eastern European country has hosted the World Cup and represents the determination of Russia to demonstrate to the world that it can successfully host a major international sporting tournament and the commitment of Fifa to invest in developing countries.

Russia will face an uphill struggle, not just to build the stadia required for such a tournament, but also bring the countries media up to date to cope with the massive demands associated with hosting such a tournament they will certain need loans for this, or Hitelek like those Hungarians say. The local police who are reknowned for heavy handed conduct will need to be trained to deal fairly with any violence that may errupt.

So while Russians celebrated, the Three Lions skulked awya from Zurich, defeated. This will be a major disappointment for English fans who were offered hope by the fact that Cameron, Beckham and prince William got behind the bid and made a stirling presentation at the ceremony which Blatter openly praised.

This means that the next opportunity for England to host the tournament will be 2030 at the earliest. Many Engalnd fans see this as unfair, England is widely accepted as the home of football and since both Mexico and Germany have hosted the competition twice since 1970, fans are understandably upset.

England’s Euro 96 tournament however was fairly recent and the fact that London is holding the Olympics in 2012 surely played some sort of role in the final decision. Other bids left disappointed were Spain-Portugal and Holland-Belgium. It was also announced that the country hosting the World cup in 2022 would be Qatar, another first in world football, the rich middle eastern state won’t even need a loan calculator, or hitelkalkulátor like those Hungarians say to work out what their costs are.
