The NBA Finals odds at the sportsbook this season didn’t contain the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Owner Dan Gilbert truly wants to make the NBA Finals next year and he is willing to spend plenty of money to get there. Cleveland couldn’t make it in NBA Finals odds, though they did have a productive regular season in basketball probabilities and NBA bets.
NBA Finals probabilities were meant to contain LeBron James and the Cavaliers however the team disappointed all over again. The Cavaliers are hoping that they can find someone to coach the team and they are hoping that James comes back next season. Michigan State’s Tom Izzo rejected the Cavaliers, in part considering he couldn’t get a commitment from James that he would return with Cleveland next season. If James isn’t going to be leading the Cavaliers, not a lot of coaches want to take the Cleveland job.
There is an opportunity that Cleveland will not have a coach until James determines whether or not he’s going to stay with Cleveland. Izzo turned down about $30 million and other top coaches would in fact want to wait on James until making a determination.
Cleveland is planning for the NBA Draft that happens in a few days without a head coach. The Cavaliers are more worried about James than they are about the draft. Cleveland is in complete flux considering they don’t have a coach and they don’t know if James is coming back next season. The free agent period commences on July 1st so it should not be long after that before Cleveland gets a decision from James. They do not have a head coach or much direction so that does not help them much now though. General manager Chris Grant said the squad will wait as much as they have to on James.
Cleveland would like to bring in Byron Scott for an interview nevertheless they could have to wait on him too. If Phil Jackson chooses to walk away from the Los Angeles Lakers then Scott would be a candidate there as well, and Scott would much rather coach the Lakers. The coaching hunt for Cleveland all boils down to James. Cleveland may have to hang on for their superstar to come to a decision before they can retain a coach. It isn’t the best circumstance as the team gets ready for the next season of basketball odds but it is their only option.
Cleveland got LeBron James when they picked up the lottery to get the number one draft pick in 2003. They were all set to make a total turnaround after they had just come off another disappointing season. They chose high school phenomenon and future NBA MVP LeBron James. They also changed their colors at that time from orange, black and blue to wine, navy blue and gold, and made the team a new logo. It symbolized a new era for the Cavaliers, who had numerous unsatisfying seasons before that and had slipped to the bottom of the league. They were beaten by the Boston Celtics but they almost made it to the Finals this year.
