It Came from Kuchar (2009) is a documentary film about underground filmmakers George Kuchar twins and directed by Mike Jennifer Kroot (a former student of George Kuchar is in the San Francisco Art Institute) and produced by Tigerlily Films LLC. [1] The film includes interviews with John Waters, Christopher Coppola, Wayne Wang, B. Ruby Rich, Atom Egoyan, Guy Maddin, Bill Griffith, and Buck Henry. Funding for the film came from many sources, including Andy Warhol Foundation and the Creative Work Fund [2].
The film premiered at the South Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas on March 14, 2009, and screened at Frameline in San Francisco and CineVegas in June 2009 and Outfest in July 2009.
George Kuchar (born August 31, 1942, New York) is an American film director, known for its "low fi "aesthetic, playful use of no-talent actors, plotless plots, and themes themeless. Trained as a commercial artist in a vocational school, School of Industrial Art, said the weather maps on a local newscast. During this period, he and his twin brother Mike Kuchar were making 8mm films which were exhibited at the scene of the film then flourishing underground next to the films of Andy Warhol, Kenneth Anger, Stan Brakhage y.
After be fired from a commercial art work in New York, Kuchar was offered a job as a professor in the department of film of San Francisco Art Institute, where he has taught since 1971. It was in San Francisco, who became involved with underground comics through their neighbors Art Spiegelman and Bill Griffith. Both ended up in his films and George liquidation in their publications.
Kuchar Metro, a biopic of the life of George Kuchar, is being developed by the Production company in Los Angeles Automat Pictures and Producer Jeffrey Schwarz.
Wine Kuchar, a documentary on the life of George and Mike Kuchar by Jennifer Kroot, premiered at the South Film Festival the Southwest, 14 March 2009. [1]
In 1997, the Kuchar brothers collaborated on a book, Reflections from a Cinematic black Well, a humorous memory analyzing four decades of cinema with an introduction by filmmaker John Waters.
