Men’s Footwear : A Few Essential Pairs

There is no doubt that any outfit, worn by a male or female, is incomplete without the right footwear. Men should have a minimum of four pairs in their closet, if they want to be able to dress well for any event. Fortunately, the number of pairs is not important, but the type is. So, if you focus on having just one decent pair of each style, you will be ready for anything that comes your way.

One valuable type of shoe you should have in your closet is the dress shoe, in a traditional style. Even if you don’t typically wear a suit, you never know when you will have to put one on, with very little notice. Certain events are not planned ahead, such as a funeral. In that case, the last thing you want to be stressing over is a pair of shoes. Dress shoes are typically characterized as having a narrow profile, with smooth and supple leather uppers, and leather soles.

A pair of casual shoes should also be hanging out in your closet, when not on your feet. These should be worn with and complement dress pants, jeans, and even some styles of shorts. They really should not be worn with a dress suit, or athletic apparel. Other than that, they are fairly versatile. It is true that a casual pair of shoes can at times look similar to a dress shoe. So when looking for a nice casual shoe, look for a robust leather upper, with a sole made with a non-leather material.

Finally, every man should have a pair of athletic shoes, or trainers, and they probably already do. The athletic shoe is a very common shoe among both men and women, worn often on down time, sporting events, and workouts. They are made of pliable leather or canvas, with rubber soles. Proper construction of an athletic shoe provides support and protection for your feet, and can be worn with denim, shorts, and athletic apparel. A common mistake is to wear them with dress pants, or even a suit.

The best plan is to have a well kept pair of each handy, and to know when, and when not to wear them. Keep them clean, and keep them ready, because you never know when you might need them.
