The 10 most popular Films of All Time – a cheat sheet (Part 1)

Are you a dumb Movie? Do not know your Corleone from your Kurosawa? Would you recognize a lightsaber if it hit in the face? Well, do not panic. To help you catch up on your knowledge of film here is the first installment of its course intensive two-part in the 10 films of all time, as voted by readers of the Internet Movie Database. Beware, however … spoilers here.

10. Star Wars IV: A New Hope

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, far away. . .

Luke Skywalker, pawn and the son of Darth Vader, is torn from his home when his aunt and uncle are murdered by Imperial assault troops search for the stolen plans of the Death Star, a space station with weaponry capable of destroying planets. Luke escapes with his two droids, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, smuggler Han Solo and first mate Chewbacca.

After escaping Tatooine, the offense of the motley crew to the Death Star shortly after he has destroyed the planet Alderaan. Trapped by his tractor beam, the ship is dragged in. While attempting to escape the Death Star the team rescue Princess Leia, held prisoner in the bowels of ships. During the rescue of Obi Wan sacrifices Himself to allow others to escape.

In a grand finale, Luke destroys the Death Star by firing a missile at a weak point in the ship's structure and Darth Vader, is shot off into the depths of space.

Trivia: Al Pacino, James Caan and Burt Reynolds reports turned down the role of Han Solo.

9. Pulp Fiction

A movie whose various plotlines are too intertwined to summarize in a paragraph or two, Pulp Fiction simply tells the story a day in the life of an unusual group of people and two hitmen, the wife of a gangster, and killed a boxer in the ring, among others.

Published to tie each history together, The Movie often plays out of sequence, to the point where the final scene and the opening scene will take place at the same time. Full of references to culture pop and quotable lines, Pulp Fiction stays true to form as a Tarantino film.

Trivia: Vincent Vega (John Travolta) is the brother of Vic Vega aka Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs.

8. The Good, the Bad and the ugly

Set during the U.S. Civil War, the film follows the three protagonists Blondie (The Good), Snake Eyes (the Bad) and Tuco (the ugly) in their search for a treasure of gold stolen by bank robber Bill Carson. All three want 50% of gold resulting in a confrontation with the former. Snake Eyes is shot dead, and allows the honorable Blondie Tuco their share of the spoils.

Trivia: Clint Eastwood wore the poncho same for all three 'Man With No Name' movies-without washing once.

7. Schindler's List

Schindler's List tells the true story of Oscar Schindler, a Nazi industrialist who becomes so moved by the plight the Jewish people during World War II is dedicated to saving as many as possible. Even after rescuing more than 1,100 Jews from the gas chamber, Schindler bemoans the fact that he could have saved if more sacrificed everything he had.

Trivia: Steven Spielberg refused to take any payment for the film, claiming that they feel as if taking blood money. "

6. The Seven Samurai

Considered the largest film Akira Kurosawa, The Seven Samurai tells the story of a people terrorized in the 16th war-torn century Japan. Constantly attacked by gangs of bandits, residents to hire seven ronin, or samurai without masters, to protect them.

Despite initial tensions between the villagers and the samurai, all successful defending the village against the bandits. However, their success comes at the expense of the lives of four samurai.

Trivia: The three samurai whose characters survived the film were the first three to death real life.
