Changing The Look of Walking Shoes with New Soles

You might do a double take with the newest rage in walking shoes ñ soles in the shoes that make your foot seem to roll through a higher mid-point at the arch.

These shoes are said to improve circulation, tone your legs and derriere and get better benefits in walking, since the shoes emulate barefoot walking in the sand they were originally called earth shoes.

Earth shoes weren’t too popular when it first came out decades ago because they looked like they were designed for someone with special needs. Invented in the 1970′s ,MBT’s also weren’t considered in style until recently. Now they’re one of the top-of-the-line shoes.

Costing upwards of $150, MBT’s, have been featured in magazines and have been credited for the added comfort for people with knee or lower back problems and for the ability to tone the legs and buns.

Other brands of shoes are following in it’s footsteps. Debuting lines which have been making the same claims of soles that make you feel like you’re walking on the sand are both Reebok and Skechers. While Skechers do it with a reverse inclined and rounded sole similar to MBT’s, Reebok has a more traditional approach with balance pods that allow air to travel under the sole of the foot but has a similar effect.

Aside from the three manufacturers, along with other lesser known brands who make athletic shoes, there are other choices as well. A walking boot version and a version of flip-flops that uses the same technology are produced by a line called Fit Flops. While other makers produce lines of unisex shoes, knowing the benefits beyond better looking legs, Reebok’s lines lean towards women and MBT makes hiking boots and sandals as well.

Although a bit pricier than your normal everyday shoe, if you choose to take advantage of these lines, there are knockoffs available at a lower cost.

Trying the shoes first, walking around with them as much as possible or finding a store with a good return policy is very essential before you spend a lot of money on them. The rolling action in most of the shoes is pleasant, although the balance in some lines such as MBT can be unsettling when you first begin walking in them.

Try to start out with shorter walks than you may be accustomed to taking. Even if you are fit, this type of shoe will work your muscles in a different way and you may initially be less comfortable with them. Rest assured that over time you can achieve benefits with this type of sole, whether you see it in the mirror or feel it in your knees, back and core.
